Easter Is...

A time for bad Christians and Jews and to join together and eat shrimp har gow while other people shove chocolate bunnies into their mouths to celebrate a sacred miracle. And after the Christians--and some Agnostics--and Jews have satiated their appetites, they catch a foreign film that, remarkably enough, manages to make Penelope Cruz unattractive. It's amazing how far a yellow, gap-toothed smile goes in diminishing one's hotness. Although the film dealt with some important issues, the one message I took away from it was: dental floss really is important. I do not want to end up looking like Penelope if I can help it.

Ugly teeth notwithstanding, I've had a lovely Easter. I organized a dim sum brunch at Chinatown's Empress Pavilion. It's always a treat to eat there. Imagine an enormous banquet hall packed to the gills with people as servers wheel cart after cart of steamed delicacies between the tables. If you're from LA and you've never eaten here, you're missing out. You have to go. Also, it's cheap. I don't know how this works out, but the bill always ends up being $10 a person. There's no menu. You literally sit at a table and point at dishes you want to try as they go buy. Many of the servers don't speak English, except to give rudimentary explanations, "Pork" "Shrimp"..etc. And if you're not a vegetarian or allergic to certain foods, it doesn't matter.

That's my big restaurant tip. Go to Empress Pavilion.

Now I'm going to try and finish organizing my taxes. Woo hoo!
