Laura

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
Quiero felicitar a todos mis amigos borrachos (or "tomadores" because both means "someone who drinks a lot of beer") hoy dia. Tenia la buen idea de poner una foto de mi perro precioso con un sombrero encima de su cabeza, pero mi sabiduria de la tienda de adobe es de un nivel muy bajo (It had to be: "Mi conocimiento del Adobe Photoshop es muy bajo" because Adobe Photoshop it's the same in English and Spanish).

Asi que, decidi hacer este "posto"(there isn't a good word to say "post" in spanish except, well, Post) en Espanol(español). Si ustedes/vosotros no entendeis (or: "si ustedes no entienden", favor de traducir la pagina usando la maravillosa babelfish.

Un beso con lengua a todos, y con mucho carino,
Laura

Bottom line... thanks Laura for the dedication of an entire post about Cinco de Mayo, here in México (for the less informed :p) we conmemorate the defeat of the French Army in 1862 at the hands of the Mexican Army (Abraham Lincoln wanted to help Mexico whom 41 years before gained independence from Spain the 16th of September but U.S.A. was busy fighting it's own civil war), at the time Mexico had a lot of debts and France was eager to add México to it's empire and used the excuse of this debt to declare war, so the Mexican Army handled their sorry asses all over the place, in 1838 Mexico battled France in the now infamous "Guerra de los Pasteles" (Cake's War) because in the struggle to gain independence from Spain there were a lot of French citizens who claimed the lost a lot of money in the loots, one of those being a 'cake maker' (pastelero, someone who makes cakes for a living) whom claimed he lost 60,000 pesos (being the dollar/peso parity roughly 1:1 it was something along the lines of 60,000 Dlls in 1838!!!), France wanted México to pay an awful inflated sum of money, México wanted to pay but because of the civil war (it ended just years before of this war) they had no money, so Frence attacked with cannon shot's Veracruz (in the Gulf of México) so México had to pay a ridiculous amount of money)... and because of this 'pastelero' it was called "la guerra de los pasteles"...

Damn... i think i just wrote a lot more than i have ever wrote in my blog :p.

Cheers and felíz Cinco de Mayo... being 11:50PM :p I have enough time for a beer before it's May the 6th.
