African & Korean Spam

How is it that one of my email addresses is always clogged with African bank schemes and spam from Korea, or what I think is Korean? Where could I have visited that makes me a target for this? And it's kind of weird that I get this spam on a daily basis. Granted, I sent money out a few times to get my share of a million dollars, but as my grandmother used to say: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me four times, shame on me.

Just curious.

It doesn’t have to be somewhere you visited. Think about places that email has been posted. Any chatrooms or message boards? Spammers have webcrawlers, much like search engines do, that do nothing but crawl the web and harvest email addresses. In order to get harvested you don’t even need to post the address, one of your loyal fans could have linked to it or something along those lines. Go to google and put in the email address and see how many places it pops up. The more places it does the more likely it was just harvested.

If anyone has ever included your email address in a mass mailing such as an alumnus organization, party/happy hour invite, jokes or just a general shout-out to the gang and didn’t enter those addresses into the ‘blind carbon copy’ (Bcc) address box in their email client then every recipient receives that mail with the entire list of addressee’s intact. From there the email can be replied to or forwarded innocently to who knows whom.

Remember Uncle Leo’s advice, get a throwaway email account from one of those free web based email sites and give that address out when you can.

The bank I worked in was constantly warning about the Nigerian scams by the Secret Service.
I've gotten so many emails that I started looking for the weirdest ones. The winner so far is suppose to be from a Romanian orphan who is living in South African. He wants help starting an orphanage in "your country" and email was sent from a Yahoo email address in Hong Kong

At least you don't have to ask yourself why you continue to get penis enhancer spam.
