Want to Help Survivors?

My good friend Tig sent me the following email today. She is from one of the towns that has been wiped off the map and is planning on heading down to Mississippi herself with two trucks (more if she can get them) full of supplies to give to the people of that region. New Orleans and Gulf Port are getting a lot of attention but there are many small towns that have yet to receive hardly anything.

I am dropping off food and clothing to her this week. If any of you want to send her supplies to bring to the people of Mississippi, please contact her via email. This will go directly to those people in need. Below is her email:

PLEASE FORWARD THIS!
dear friends and family,
i hope this email finds you and your families and friends well. i know some
of you have direct ties to the devastation on the gulf coast and others just
catching what you can from the news. as some of you know, i am originally
from mississippi. my hometown pass christian was completely wiped off the
map. it is LITERALLY gone. it's west of biloxi and gulfport (the 2 towns
big enough to get press). my family has been there for generations and a
place where i have spent my summers-even as an adult (i was actually booked
to do a week of shows in biloxi this week of the hurricane so that i could
visit-obviously cancelled). in any event, so many towns like mine are too
small to get the coverage from the news. i am writing to spread the word
that i am loading a rental truck and planning on driving supplies down to
not only my hometown of pass christian, but to other towns like it (and even
the smaller ones) that are in utter desperation-and will continue to be for
months to come. if you have ANY clothes, food, water, books, magazines,
money etc you would like to donate, please contact me ASAP. i am HOPING to
load up a full truck and drive down there myself with SOME relief and have
the opportunity to give back to an area that i love so much. thank you and
thanks so much for everyones phone calls and emails. this past week has
been brutal to say the least.
thanks.

Here is a link to a copy of a email that I received of agencys seeking cash donations Hurricane Katrina: List of Agencies.

I know of a restaurant owner who wants to send stuff but he's frustrated because no one seems to know where to send things. If your friend knows or learns where to send things I'll be glad to pass the information on.

Just a thought...
NPACH has lost it's Southern Regional Office, based in New Orleans.

You might want to donate to them.

It's a cool tax deduction.

Hey Oakmist,
Thank you for making the effort. Since Tig leaves tomorrow and can pretty much only bring supplies and checks she receives from people dropping them off or mailing them, you should probably donate to the Red Cross instead. Thank you for taking the time to try and do this...and from the UK!

And, of course, my friend at NPACH has been displaced by the hurricane, so there's another organization where your contribution could help.

Thank you again.
