North Korea's Grounded

The U.S. has banned the sale of iPods and other consumer goods to North Korea in an effort to make its dictator behave. Its Bush's latest attempt to punish nations in the "Axis of Evil." Top aides to the president say this new tactic will be implemented in Iraq as well, where Bush has already threatened both Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamel al-Maliki and Shiite cleric Moqtada al Sadr with a "time out." In Amman yesterday the president addressed the two leaders saying, "I don't want to have to separate you two."

Iran and Iraq are now pals. There will be no separating those two even if we threaten what's left of the Iraqi people with a holdout on our plastic pieces of shit that we so worship.

Holy shit. There is (WAS) this tremendous collection of photos of North Korea someone had snuck out earlier this year - saw the link a few times and more than once poured over the photos myself very carefully. I just sought the link so I could use it in my argument (entitled "who needs an iPod when you live in THIS place") but the PHOTOS ARE TEH GONE!!! See for yourself!

Moral of the story? Go ahead and keep your stupid iPods. The author of this post has a certain cancer in his heart for the amount of importance we as a society place on the iPod; social gagetry: the Walkman or it's child the Discman were never coveted as status symbols. We threaten North Korea that we may withold from them the chance to, like us, spend a few hundred bucks just to let the world know that you too like to listen to music but are too afraid to let others hear it.

If I can find that gallery of NK pics I'll link em - they were something to see. They are a people who have waited forever for a war to come. iPods indeed. Fuck you Steve Jobs.

Update: while the original photos have been removed from that link, there are plenty on the following pages. Neat shit.

iPods are made in China. China borders North Korea. Profit.

Tim, I got to page 6 and wow. North Korea is not a happy place.

Don't worry man, if they can just get their shit together they can all be standing alone with little white plugs in their ears in no time. You should have seen the original pics. There must be like 2 people for every 4 square miles there.

I couldn't see the pics. Could it be a Safari thing?

Some of the pages had placeholders because ... well because the page is popular and the hosting service said the person who posted them exceeded their download allotment.

These just worked for me. Firefox 2 for the win.

The original poster and his set of photos all qualified as no-nos. The remaining pages of that thread feature "approved" images. One that stood out which is now long gone - a long stretch of mountain road; the road runs between to deep slopes (not a car, structure, human nothing) but these GIANT monoliths of stone standing on end which when shoved would fall over and render the road impasable to any armored vehicle. Man I wish I had the foresight to save those pics.
