Fat Splat Sued

"Fat Splat" is the name I conferred to ABC's delightful reality competition show "Wipeout". I've never actually watched "Wipeout", but judging from the commercials I saw, the goal is to watch overweight people fall in spectacular fashion. It's hilarious. The only people not laughing, however, are the Japanese, who believe ABC has pilfered their format. If this turns out to be true, then shame on ABC. There is no excuse for stealing show ideas when it is so easy to simply import them from other places. Of course, I have to give credit to G4 for coming up with an original show of its own that merely pays homage to Japanese TV without stealing.

I linked to the Ab Fab announcement. I loved "Arrested Development" and I loved "Absolutely Fabulous", but I don't know that I'll love an American version. "The Office" does give hope that remakes can work if handled well.

The fact that it's on FOX makes me wary for where it might go on the edginess/Lowest-Common-Denominator spectrum (i.e., for every "Office" there are ten "Couplings").
