Ahhhh yes...Number two. I didn't get a silver medal for landing second place in a local comedy contest, but I did get a $50 gift certificate to Louise's Trattoria, and a $25 gift certificate to something else.
This is the second contest I've been in in so many weeks. I like comedy contests because the winners are selected by the audience members. That means if you bring a lot of people, you're likely to get a lot of votes. For someone like me, it means I don't have to worry about having a bunch of people come down because other comics will likely have invited a ton of their friends. And then, when I get second place, I can blame it on the fact that I didn't have any of my friends in the audience. I was naturally the best comic there, but the voters were a little biased. It doesn't even matter that the guy who won first place had a really good set. I was better. iwasbetteriwasbetteriwasbetteriwasbetteriwasbetter.
I won't go into the professional opportunity I may have botched earlier this week. Suffice it to say, I probably shouldn't try out new material at a certain club when most of the comics on the bill are doing their tried and true material. My nasty habit is wanting to try out my new jokes because they're shiny and worked the ONE time I tried them on stage before. Maybe I'll save this subject for the podcast. I'm a little frustrated with myself.
Ummmmmmm...okay. I'm off to support Guy who's in a comedy contest in Hollywood (I've already advanced to the next round). I really shouldn't be bragging. It's not a contest that REALLY MATTERS, but it's a nice little ego boost to be recognized even in such a small way.
All for tonight.
