Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's leading optimist and current Prime Minister, is under attack by negative Nellies who can't abide Berlusconi's upbeat response to the earthquake that rocked central Italy. He urged newly-homeless Italians to think of the quake as a "camping weekend". I'm used to political correctness run amok in the U.S., and am surprised to see it in Italy as well. It's a sad day when a nation's leader can't put a positive spin on a natural disaster. These are the same people who balked at referring to the Thai tsunami four years ago as a "national water park".
I'm just tired of the negativity.

As a former victim of a 6.3 earthquake I'd have to say yeah, not too cool. Not the end of the world though. I think the whole "house fell down" thing might be on people's minds more than what their leader said in some off-hand remark.
FEMA paid my credit card bills, baby!
I will say that for the first two weeks everyone in Northridge was super nice and polite. After that the lack of power started to make people uppity.

My mistake. Northridge was at least a 6.7. Those Italians are a bunch of pussies.
